I have friends from Portugal and very nice people they are, too. I am also aware of Britain's long links with Portugal, founded in alcohol - Port - and continued through the grand comradeship of the Peninsular War against Napoleon. Yet, though from an historical point of view it would be interesting to view the lines of Torres Vedras or see the sites of Wellington's famous victories, I have no real desire to visit the country - but who can tell what the future will hold?
