Cambridge

Cambridge has a long history dating back to Roman times, but its chief claim to fame is as a centre of learning. I apologise in advance, therefore, for the first film we have from this ancient and distinguished seat of scholarship.

There is no such apology for the second, which is about one of the reasons why Cambridge prospered as a seat of learning - its willingness to embrace new ideas.

The good burghers of Cambridge weren't quite so keen to embrace new diseases and built a hospital to keep lepers at a safe distance.

One of the pleasures of Cambridge is punting on the Cam. Nothing finer on a nice day than to put a few friends and a hamper into a punt and head down to Grantchester for a picnic.

And then, of course, there is the church with a mermaid, though even that isn't so strange as the Korean couple. What a hat!
