Guilin

Guilin is situated on the River Li and surrounded by extraordinary limestone hills that rise from the plain like inverted cups or like nature's version of London's "Gerkin". Visitors to the town can take a trip on the river to view these natural wonders, but alas the weather was misty and my friend chose instead to take a night-time cruise past the illuminated Sun and Moon Pagodas and the various pavilions and restaurants that stand in or by the river.

As the boat approached the pagodas and other buildings, actors in costume appeared and performed, but as it was all in Chinese, I have no information about what they were doing.

The boat didn't stop and my friend was hand-holding the camera, so viewers of the 56k modem version of the film are not likely to get much beyond an impression of blurred colours. Sorry.
